€10 million for Kuro: Germany's largest general contractors bet on this Berlin-based AI company

  • The Berlin-based company raises €10 million led by UVC Partners to build out the AI foundation for general contractors
  • Foundamental, Realyze Ventures and helloworld participate in the round
  • 6 of their 12 existing customers are among the 20 largest general contractors in the German-speaking region

Europe has decided to build again: roads, housing, data centres, energy, defence. EU member states invested around €1.6 trillion in construction in 2025. The companies asked to deliver most of it are general contractors. They sit at the centre of every project, and every project's data runs through them. This quickly adds up to hundreds of thousands of pages. Their teams in sales, estimating, procurement and site management spend around half their time sifting through that information and making sense of it. Worse, the project's documents regularly contradict each other. If a contradiction goes unnoticed, the general contractor bears the cost, which can run into millions depending on the project. The people working on these projects make hard-won, high-stakes judgements every day. Yet with every completed project, this knowledge is lost.

Kuro builds the AI foundation for general contractors. The platform processes all of these documents and links them into one data model. On top of that sits the company's own rulebook: its building components, review criteria and work packages. The platform finds contradictions between drawings and building specifications, analyses what needs to be built and where the risks lie, enriches components in 3D models, processes public tenders and evaluates subcontractor bids. Corrections made by estimators stay in the rulebook and apply to the next project.

The result: less time spent and higher quality. Customers report time savings of around 90 hours per bid. 70 per cent of users say Kuro found information they would otherwise have missed. This prevents costly errors, up to and major damage on site.

Customers include Goldbeck, Köster, Implenia, Geiger and Riedel – 6 of the 20 largest general contractors in the German-speaking region.

Nils Köster, CEO of Köster GmbH, says: "We price more bids with the same team, but that's a side effect. What matters is that we spot risks in the tender quickly, before we submit our price."

The contracts are coming. At the same time, the construction industry is losing its most experienced people: in Germany alone, around 19,800 workers in the main construction trade retired in 2024 – and took their knowledge with them.

Lea Scherer, CEO of Kuro Technology, says: "An industry that forgets faster than it learns cannot deliver on these contracts. We see the construction industry as the foundation for progress in Europe. With Kuro, our job is to give it the technical foundation it needs to live up to this continent's ambition. The general contractors that manage to turn their knowledge into a product will depend less on individual people as they grow."

Jonas Minkler, co-founder and CPO of Kuro Technology, says: "We started in estimation because that's where a project is born and decided. But the problems carry through into everything that follows: too much contradictory data and knowledge that isn't passed on from project to project. That's why we're now expanding the platform step by step across the entire back office, building a system that learns and gets better with every project."

Dr. Ingo Potthof, Managing Partner at UVC Partners, says: "We're delighted to be working with Lea and Jonas. We have known each other for many years, since well before Kuro was founded. They bring years of startup experience and deep industry knowledge, which matters a great deal in construction. And it's paying off: they are already delivering measurable value to customers with their first use cases in estimating, and are gradually extending the product to other back-office processes such as procurement, accounting, and compliance. The fast-growing customer base of leading general contractors proves their strategy right."

About Kuro

Kuro is the AI foundation for general contractors. Every project's data runs through a general contractor: hundreds of thousands of pages that regularly contradict each other, and hard-won judgements that die with the project. Kuro processes every document and links it to one data model that adapts to each customer's own logic and decisions. The platform finds contradictions between drawings and bills of quantities, analyses what has to be built and where the risks sit, enriches building components in 3D models, works through public tenders and evaluates subcontractor bids. It finds risks before they become expensive and lets teams win more work with the same people. Customers report around 90 hours saved per estimate, and 70 percent of users say Kuro found information they would otherwise have missed. The largest general contractors in Germany, Austria and Switzerland have rolled out Kuro to hundreds of users each, among them Goldbeck, Hochtief Infrastructure, Köster, Implenia, Geiger and Riedel. Kuro was founded in Berlin in November 2024 by Lea Scherer and Jonas Minkler, who previously held leadership roles at the construction-tech companies alcemy and Capmo. Kuro employs 16 people in Berlin.
